ABSTRACT:
View of the diversity of theories that accompany the high capabilities, intelligence, highly-gifted children, talent, etc.. then is presented the work I developed in the private practice Sales Jove S.L.P., in Lleida, aimed at detecting and evaluating gifted children and teenagers, and thanks to the data I was able to confirm or reject some of the myths, beliefs and stereotypes that exist about the Gifted.
The materials used were tests predetection highly-gifted tests, different
psychometric tests to assess intelligence, IQ, adaptive behavior and the emotional and relational, psychosocial interviews and projective techniques, and the different theories and theories of some author / s. The activities have included passing these tests, interviews with children & teenagers and their families, analysis of the results of various tests with my practices' tutor, etc.
The results obtained in this study allowed me to reject some of the myths, beliefs and stereotypes that still exist on the high capabilities such as: the gifted children and adolescents do not require assistance, or get along alone; children and adolescents with high capabilities accompanied with good academic performance. While other myths or beliefs I could not refuse or validate because I need more information for doing so, for example, the fact that children and adolescents with high capabilities are more prone to psychological imbalances.
